Working from the third floor of her historic Old Louisville home, Kris Stewart creates unique journals, sketchbooks and photo albums, bringing beauty and function to everything she makes. Years spent studying art and enjoying nature allow her to see the world as a canvas of color, pattern and texture, and this appreciation comes through in her designs. Kris is an experienced artisan who approaches every new challenge with a fresh outlook and a desire to grow. She's a bit of a perfectionist (ok, maybe more than that), and brings an uncommon precision to her work. Bookbinding has been her passion for over 20 years.
How does someone get into bookbinding you wonder? In Kris's case it was the right opportunity at the right time. She was staying home with her newborn when she came across a beginning bookbinding class at a local shop. Intrigued (and desperately needing to get out of the house), she signed up. After three hours of folding, gluing and stitching she was completely hooked! That was 1998 and she's been learning new skills and making books ever since, opening her original online shop on Etsy in 2010. Her only employee, Lucy Sunshine, is a Catahoula Leopard Dog who was recently promoted from Footwarmer to CTM (Chief Trouble-Maker).
In her spare time Kris loves exploring her neighborhood with its fabulous architecture. She wishes she could check out all the great restaurants in Louisville but laments, "So many calories, so little time." She also enjoys traveling as much as possible, always wanting to know what's around the next corner.
