Story
Mill Creek runs directly through (and under!) downtown Walla Walla. In order to prevent flooding, the meandering creek was directed into a single channel with 263 concrete sills spanning the width of the creek on its way into town. The purpose of the sills is, in part, to disperse the water's energy and control erosion. Each sill causes a small spill-over, creating a stripe of white water, a vision repeated 263 times down the course of the controlled section of creek. It's a beautiful place to walk!
